One university, four wings.
Like the company as a whole, the Kapsch University is similarly subject to a process of constant change and development. Changes in the structure, in the programming and in the actual training offered are possible at any time, and this is seen as an opportunity for optimisation.
Fundamentally, the Kapsch University is structured into four wings: the college, the diploma academy, the specialist academy and the ‘brains trust’.
Each wing specialises in particular areas of strategic continuing training work and is oriented in each case to a particular target group amongst Kapsch Group company employees, apart from the college, which as an institution is open to all comers.
We are grateful to every employee for their critical comments and suggestions.
The Kapsch University is headed up by Doris Kruschitz-Bestepe, with support on the administrative side from Nathalie Schöpf, Ingrid Prokop and Andrea Sapotnig.
The CollegeThe Kapsch University College is an establishment which in principle is open to all employees. It provides offers for staff in a wide range of posts and levels in the company hierarchy. Every year, the Advisory Board decides on what are known as ‘corridor themes’ – themes which concern a large number of employees at the strategic level.
The Kapsch University College offer includes the following
- IT user courses
- Language courses
- Selected training offers on various themes, such as Public Speaking or Interpersonal Skills
- Specific seminars on every conceivable theme and content, as requested by the Kapsch organisational units based on their needs
- External seminars with providers in the free market
Language courses
The College is fundamentally available to all employees in all organisational units and at all levels of the hierarchy. Anyone wishing to attend a seminar requires the approval of their respective manager. Participating in seminars needs to harmonise with budget plans, and for language courses and IT seminars the aim should be to acquire corresponding certifications.
Seminars:
- Languages
All languages as required. Main areas of focus: English, Swedish, Spanish and South-East European languages. The offer includes weekly courses, three-day intensive courses and one- or two-week courses abroad. - IT seminars
User counselling, individually or in groups, to suit the individual requirements. Trainers at the workplace. - Seminars for managerial staff
These cover themes which are highly relevant for managerial staff and their day-to-day operative business. - Personal development
Here the focus is particularly on the individual competences or needs of the employee. A needs analysis to that end is carried out in the regular employee interviews.
The Diploma AcademyThe courses offered by the Diploma Academy are aimed at potential future managers and existing managerial staff. The individual management levels are supported in a targeted manner through these syllabuses.
The offer comprises:
- Small General Management Curriculum for potential future managers
- Training path for young managers
- Training path for experienced managers
- Training path for Level 1 management
Small General Management Curriculum:
The Small General Management Curriculum is aimed on the one hand at employees with potential who are not yet working at management level, and on the other hand at employees with a purely technical background who are requesting initial training and further training measures to take them beyond this. The Small General Management Curriculum (SGMC) is a training programme with a modular design running over 18 months and ending in a piece of project work. Admission is through a selection assessment centre and an interview with the decision-takers. On the basis of these results, more in-depth seminars are defined in accordance with individual requirements.
Training path for young managers:
Different modules cover the main thematic areas of “Leadership and Organisation”, “Management Competence”, “Management Communications”, “Developing Employees” and “Management by Objectives”. We offer detailed information about the modules and offers via the intranet.
Training path for experienced managers:
Different modules cover the main thematic areas of “Management”, “Principles of Economics”, “Stability Management” and “Managing in and with Resistance”. We offer detailed information about the modules and offers via the intranet.
The Specialist AcademyThe Specialist Academy places an emphasis on aspects relating to content and strategy. The central focus is on long-term optimisation of specialist competences. The training courses are developed in line with needs, and repeatedly redefined. At its heart, the Specialist Academy sees its role as providing a soundly-based training course to the highest professional level, using a modular structure. Modules:
- Key-Account Management Academy based on the St. Gallen model
- High Volume Sales course
- Communications professional technician
- Secretarial/Office Academy
- Project Management
- CMC
Training courses for specialist career options:
- Cisco
- Enterasys
- Nortel
- Ericsson
- HP
- and others
Taking up an offer from the Specialist Academy requires the agreement of the employee, the departmental manager and the Head of Unit (Bereichsleiter). The employee also signs an undertaking to sit an examination where testing is relevant to the training.
Brains Trust
The Kapsch University is supported in its content and its strategic aspects by a ‘Brains Trust’, to which a number of different committees belong. This think-tank meets at least twice a year, to assist in framing the strategy and defining the key areas of focus for the Kapsch University. The members of this Advisory Board are Board directors, managing directors, the holding company’s HR Manager and the Head of Kapsch University. The board chairmen within the company also take part in these meetings.
The Brains Trust is also responsible for strategic training projects and defines and initiates what are known as ‘corridor themes’ – themes which affect all employees – as needed.
Independent of this, there are also two specialist groupings:
The Technical Circle is a committee which meets once every three months, comprising internal and external specialists whose aim is to engage with technical developments and to devise necessary measures which can be derived from them.
On the sales side there is the Business Circle, which engages with marketing issues with the same aims.
The Management Forum is an event for all managerial staff in the Kapsch Group. It is held every two to three years. Here, the major content issues for the Kapsch Group are discussed and worked through in technical detail: strategic themes, the content of communications, and employee issues.
